  • Xanga Hong Kong??

I KNEW I wasn't crazy when I noticed 2 years ago that there was a growing number of asians on Xanga. Pretty impressive, Hong Kong.

I spent all afternoon at school today. That's STL for, "I didn't get anything done." I "attended" a webinar about using wireless devices like iPhones and netbooks in the classroom to teach 21st century skills and increase student engagement. It was pretty interesting, but the panelists were two women that worked for AT&T, so at the end of the day, it was really just a commercial for AT&T wireless service data plans. It would ideally be nice to be able to use iPhones and smartphones in the classroom for their apps without having to worry about students texting all hour. We would have to adjust our school policy on electronic devices, as well.

At 7 the school HOPE (Helping Our Peers Eternally) Club, of which I am newly a co-sponsor, had their meeting. Either he asked, or my leaders just didn't want to plan anything, but Taylor Webb came to lead the bible discussion. The students are excited about helping with this year's Food for Life conference. (I hope.) (Check their facebook page for more info on the conference.)

  • Gauging My Internet Presence

AOL has known me as Punk4JC16 since 1998.

Yahoo! Fantasy Sports has known me as the same since 1999.

    I was a Blogger® in 2002.

I've been a member of the Xanga community for almost 6 1/2 years.

My mug has been on Facebook since it was "The Facebook" and we were still waiting for Div. 1 schools to get added.

I send gmail, not email. (Probably a distinction no ones cares about, but was very exciting when gmail was by invitation only.)

    I'm LinkedIn.

    I make some sweet tweets.

Reflecting on my internet presence brings to mind several questions....
Why won't 1998 stop looking like 11 years ago. You're creeping me out, numbers. Stop it.
Was all the time worth it if I'm still overshadowed by like 5 other real-life Chuck Bakers?
As the internet continues to mature, how many more archived, cached webpage identities of Chuck Baker will go to die on Google servers? How much of it will matter?

  • "Really?!" - with Chuck Baker

“President Obama’s actions will help reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, abortions and women dying from high-risk pregnancies because they don’t have access to family planning,” said Tod Preston, a vice president at Population Action International.  NY Times article here.

Really, Tod?!  The executive order that President Obama reversed this week did nothing to stop abortions for pregnancies with risk to the mother.  And please, someone show me a person who chose NOT to have an abortion after going to a "family planning" clinic.  I can almost see a connection between trying to promote "global economic development" (as Pres. Obama put it) and fewer unwanted pregnancies in developing countries, but that really felt to me like one of those things college freshman stick on the end of a lit/comp paper to try and finish with a generalized, vague bang.

Cross another off the list!  We'll have to go to Heinz Field in Pittsburg for the next one.  Interestingly, Collinsville, IL is also home to a "chuckwagon bbq" joint in an A-frame building with a faux stained-glass window painted on the front.  The subject of said faux-window is a crucifix and Mary.

About Me

  • I live in North St. Louis County (Village of Bel-Nor) with my looooovely wife where we watch a lot of TiVo, Wii our Wii, read books before bedtime. I teach math where I graduated high school. I read educational technology and urban design blogs in my free time. The older I get, the nerdier I feel. Let's hope that's not foreshadowing anything.

Obviously not. That, or no one comes here. That's probably much more likely. Eh, can you believe I've been a member of this site for almost 5 years?

Has anyone seen this here yet? Do you remember the chatterbox I used to have? That thing was great. I miss it.
